Add Date: June 24

Artist: Earlimart

Album: Hymn and Her

Label: Majordomo

Genre: Indie rock, indie pop

Comments: Nearly three years elapsed between the 2004 release of the excellent Treble and Tremble and its very solid follow-up, Mentor Tormentor. That was evidently too long even for the band's taste, and as such they've promised an album a year for the next 10 years. While that may be overly ambitious, Hymn and Her is a fine way to continue this proliferation. For its first four albums, Earlimart was spearheaded entirely by Aaron Espinoza; yet, as with Mentor Tormentor, Ariana Murray is now co-writing the songs (and, much to everyone's benefit, singing lead vocals on several). Excellent pop rock for fans of Pedro the Lion, early Death Cab for Cutie, Elliott Smith and Yo La Tengo. Check out "Song For," "Before It Gets Better" and "Face Down in the Right Town."
