Tommy and the Whale

Add Date: November 11

Artist: Tommy and the Whale

Album: Shoot for the Moon

Label: Esperanza Plantation Records

Genre: Rock/Alternative

Comments: Tommy and the Whale brings us creative, organic music on Shoot for the Moon, an album that is, quite simply, a nice surprise. One of the best tracks is “Crooked and Blue,” which starts out with an accordion, then develops into a slow, somewhat alt-country track that, halfway through, also brings in some bells, and ends with some sweet brass instruments, all the while featuring crooning-ballad-like vocals. What’s impressive is that it doesn’t sound forced—the music is honest, and unpretentious, and the record is solid. The opening track features a similar brass section, which honestly makes me think of the last couple of tracks on Fleetwood Mac’s live album The Dance. Overall, it’s an interesting record that is definitely worth a listen.
