Add Date: February 3
Artist: Robyn Hitchcock & the Venus 3
Album: Goodnight Oslo
Label: Yep Roc
Genre: Rock, psychedelic pop, folk rock
Comments: Three decades on, Robyn Hitchcock is still creating brilliant pop music. Those of you who are too young to remember the Soft Boys or the Egyptians, two of Hitchcock's previous projects, will still be able to appreciate the influence that this Englishman has had on alternative music for the last three decades. (One of Hitchcock's obvious followers, Decemberists front man Colin Meloy, is a guest on this record.) On Goodnight Oslo, horns and strings provide the perfect accompaniment to the traditional rock lineup of the Venus 3, which includes R.E.M. members/affiliates Peter Buck, Bill Rieflin and Scott McCaughey.
If you've seen the superb film Rachel Getting Married, then you're already familiar with the standout track, "Up to Our Nex," which Hitchcock plays in the movie. Also check out "I'm Falling," "Your Head Here," "What You Is" and the Buck-penned "Sixteen Years."
