Care Bears on Fire

Add Date: August 4

Artist: Care Bears on Fire

Album: Get Over It!

Label: S-Curve

Genre: Rock, pop-punk

Comments: The trio Care Bears on Fire make melodic pop-punk that brings to mind The Donnas or Sahara Hotnights, but with a twist: they're junior-high age. So they sing about the issues affecting today's youth, like eating disorders for dolls ("Barbie Eat a Sandwich") and finding out that one of your social networking friends is really a unicorn ("Met You on MySpace"). Wait, are these Syd Barrett's grandkids? But the songs, written by the girls themselves--with the guiding hand of folks like Fountains of Wayne/Tinted Windows/Ivy's Adam Schlesinger and Luscious Jackson's Jill Cunniff--are relatively clever and extremely catchy. Get Over It! is a very enjoyable debut, and it will be interesting to see where the band goes from here.
