Add Date: March 2
Artist: Gonjasufi
Album: A Sufi and A Killer
Label: Warp Records
Genre: Hip-Hop/Other
Comments: From Terrorbird: "Drawing from unearthed strains of global psychadelia and merging it with a rejuvinating it with a rejuvenated sense of hip-hop clarity currently distinct to the West Coast, Gonjasufi is more than just a songwriter, MC, or performer." The album title, A Sufi and A Killer, is pretty accurate for Gonjasufi's debut release: equal parts mysticism and beats, the record is quite creative, featuring chanting, Sumach Ecks' (ie, Gonjasufi--a rapper-singer-yoga teacher) weird, slightly broken and strained vocals, lo-fi samples and steady beats. Utterly, incredibly trippy. Start with tracks 3, 5, 11, and 15.
