Comments: The California troupe Fol Chen made waves with their 2009 debut Part I: John Shade, Your Fortune's Made, an album that flew a bit under the radar, yet instantly hooked in anyone who stumbled across it. For a followup, they've made one of this year's best and most intriguing dance pop records. More electronic than Of Montreal, but more of an indie rock outfit than Hot Chip (two of the promoter's comparisons), Part II: The New December is easily accessible, but far from your standard synth pop record.
