Comments:
Longtime collaborators--and current "item," if that's still common parlance--Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice team up for 11 tracks of breezy pop that draws from '70s touchstones like Fleetwood Mac as well as early '90s alternative. (Tell me "Animal" doesn't sound like an R.E.M. tune, less Michael Stipe.) I'm Having Fun Now is a change of pace from the two artists' past work--not quite as folksy as their solo stuff, and not quite venturing into the rock stylings of the band that propelled Lewis to indie stardom, Rilo Kiley.

Though the LP is a solid effort, fans of Lewis may be a little disappointed. Most of the better tracks have Rice taking the lead, in particular the opener and lead single "Scissor Runner," the countryesque closing number "Committed" and the aforementioned "Animal." The best Lewis-fronted song--really, the only standout on the album in which she sings lead vocals--is the retro pop tune "Straight Edge of the Blade."
