Add Date: August 3
Artist: Jesca Hoop
Album: Hunting My Dress
Label: Vanguard
Genre: Folk, rock
Comments: Northern California musician Jesca Hoop caught her big break by working as the nanny for Tom Waits' children, but it's hard to imagine that her talent would otherwise have gone undiscovered. Hunting My Dress, her second LP, welds the influences of musical touchstones like Paul Simon and Kate Bush to traditional folk and blues, and the end result is very intriguing. Though there are a lot of different sounds and styles on the record, more often than not, Nina Nastasia's music is brought to mind; indeed, Hoop is at her best when playing quiet, yet intricate folk songs.
Start with "The Kingdom," the title track and "Four Dreams."
