Margaret Cho

Add Date: September 28

Artist: Margaret Cho

Album: Cho Dependent

Label: Clownery

Genre: Folk, rock, amusement

Comments: From the artist: "I want to create a new genre of music that is hilarious but also seriously good, so I turned to some of my music heroes to help me out."

Most of the songs on this album feature a more well-known artist than Cho herself. This list includes Andrew Bird, Tegan and Sara, Fiona Apple, Ani DiFranco and more. This album takes a truly unique approach to incorporating humor into music; the lyrics are sometimes wildly inappropriate, sometimes wildly dry-humored, but the consistency lies in the wildness of all it all. Margaret Cho has released an album that is like nothing else. The songs are actually fantastic in their musicianship and structure, production and melodies. On top of it all, you will certainly laugh throughout this record. Rarely do I listen to a record second-for-second all the way through when I'm writing these reviews. But with this album, the surprises never end, and the jokes keep coming. Cho's inclusion of different "music heroes" on each song provides for an stupendous dynamic throughout the album.

The worst part about this record is that most of it is not appropriate for day-time radio play. I'll start with the songs that you can on air during the day: 1, 5, 6, 7. Start with 1 (featuring Tegan and Sara) and 6 (featuring Andrew Bird). Do not play 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13
