Miracle Fortress

Add Date: May 3

Artist: Miracle Fortress

Album: Was I The Wave?

Label: Secret City

Genre: Electronica

Comments: Described as a "hi-fi, mathy version of chillwave," the second album from Miracle Fortress (the solo work of Graham Van Palt from Canadian dance pop group Think About Life), Was I The Wave?, is pretty much exactly that. Carefully layered beats and powerful but restrained harmonic vocal lines run through the record as a whole, but there's a good amount of deviation between the tracks themselves. "Tracers" is an almost '80s-esque throwback, with a quickly moving bassline (described as "wiggling"--again, I can't really come up with a better descriptor), while "Raw Spectacle" is a denser, more fluid track, spanning 6 minutes with plenty of slow escalation. Overall, there's a nice synth-pop element and a New Wave vibe (hence the chillwave... but not lo-fi); start with tracks 2, 3 and 5.
