Add Date: May 3
Artist: of Montreal
Album: Thecontrollersphere EP
Label: Polyvinyl
Genre: Pop
Comments: The only thing that you can really expect from of Montreal at this point is something at least slightly unexpected. Their latest EP, Thecontrollersphere, is just that--a blend of the group's familiar spacey and weird pop, and an introduction to a new sound, full of heavy, industrial beats (most evident on track 1). Despite the generally less-than-FCC friendly lyrics (but when has Kevin Barnes been anything else except wildly suggestive?), it's a steller of Montreal EP, and track 5--"Slave Translator"--is a fantastic exemplifier of the group's sound: falsetto vocals mixed with harmony of bursts of energy, constant tempo shifts, and spastic rhythms, all breaking down into a whirlpool of noise.
