Comments: The Portland quartet Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside combines elements of country, jazz, blues and vintage rock and roll with a modern pop sensibility, and the result is infectious. Dirty Radio is a stellar record--Ford's quirky voice is incredibly powerful, and the constant shifting of styles gives the music a vintage, soulful sound. Sometimes the sound is closest to rockabilly; other times, backing vocals give the music an almost gospel sound. A fantastic record (and, for added music cred, Seth Avett is a fan); start with tracks 2, 4 and 7 (also track 3, which is sadly DNP).
