Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

Add Date: May 31

Artist: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

Album: It's a Corporate World

Label: Quite Scientific/Warner Bros.

Genre: Indie pop

Comments: Michigan duo Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. may have taken its name from a stock car racing icon, but it's hard to imagine that any tracks from It's a Corporate World will make their way onto a (stereotypical) NASCAR fan's mixtape anytime soon. This is sunshiny, Brian Wilson-inspired pop, updated for 2011 with drum machines and synths. Most of the songs tread fairly familiar territory--The Flaming Lips, The Notwist, Say Hi and Electric President all come to mind at different times--but I wouldn't accuse Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. of duplicating what's come before. And since they do hail from Motown, there has to be at least one soul-inspired song, and late-album changeup "We Almost Lost Detroit" serves that purpose well.

Very enjoyable. Check out tracks 1, 4, 9 and 8.
