Artist: Cut Off Your Hands
Album: Hollow
Label: Frenchkiss
Genre: Rock, pop
Comments: Cut Off Your Hands has honed and tweaked its sound quite a bit for the sophomore LP Hollow. While the influence of The Smiths and Orange Juice could certainly be heard on 2008 debut You and I, that record veered more toward the post-punk end of the spectrum; at times, it would have been easy to confuse these Kiwis with your standard British rock band.
Thus, the poppier change--as in, more stylistically indebted to The Bats (Cut Off Your Hands' New Zealand forebears), Echo & the Bunnymen or even The Byrds--is a good one for the band. Start with "All It Takes", "You Should Do Better" and "Down & Out".
