Add Date: August 23
Artist: I Break Horses
Album: Hearts
Label: Co-op/Downtown
Genre: Rock, electronica, shoegaze
Comments: The Stockholm duo I Break Horses is presumably named after a Smog song, but their music channels shoegaze titans like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine, and it will immediately put them on par with contemporary acts like Memoryhouse or Zola Jesus. Maria Linden's dreamy vocals sound as if, untouched, they'd be quite ethereal, meaning that the reverb and tremelo effects--and the expert songwriting of Fredrik Balck--merely enhance this quality. Linden's voice is surrounded by the lush waves of sound that she composed, which veer from gorgeous, swirling electropop to dense shoegaze rock.
Hearts is a stunning debut--a great record throughout, but key in on tracks 1, 3, 8, 5 and 7.
