Artist: The Maccabees
Album: Given to the Wild
Genre: Rock, alternative
Comments: Perhaps unfairly pigeonholed as a standard-issue Brit rock band in the past, The Maccabees are sure to catch the ear of audiophiles with their new LP, Given to the Wild. Claiming influences that include The Stone Roses--very noticeable--David Bowie and Kate Bush, the band enlisted the help of Tim Goldsworthy (co-owner of DFA Records) and Bruno Ellingham (LCD Soundsystem), and the rich production values flesh out these gorgeous alt-pop compositions.
And yet fans of mainstream British alternative shouldn't be turned off, either--even while experimenting with new sounds, The Maccabees retain the pop sensibilities that have drawn them comparisons to the likes of Coldplay and Doves. The entire album is worth a listen, but in particular give tracks 3, 8, 2 and 4 a spin.
