Comments: Wait, didn't Rage Against the Machine just get back together, nearly (though inadvertently) causing a riot at Lollapalooza? The timing is thus strange to receive EPs from the new projects of RATM vocalist Zack de la Rocha (One Day as a Lion) and guitarist Tom Morello. Listening to One Day as a Lion is like a flashback to the heyday of Rage--of course, de la Rocha's distinctive voice and style are the reason why--but it's a welcome return to the time before trash-heap bands like Linkin Park turned the rap-metal/nu-metal genre into a laughingstock. Meanwhile, Morello's early work as The Nightwatchman was a variant of folk rock; the new EP finds him returning to his rock roots. Both LPs are due out in the fall.
