Comments: Following up on his brilliant May LP Cosmogramma, Steven Ellison, a.k.a. Flying Lotus, delivers another set of electronic awesomeness on this 7-song EP. Having quickly become a master of the style developed by DJ Shadow, Madlib and the late J Dilla, Flying Lotus ventures into pure synthesizer bliss on Pattern + Grid World. While Cosmogramma seamlessly folded in hip hop and jazz, among other styles, into its electronic melting pot, there's a narrower focus here--as the promoter says, Ellison goes "back to the machines and mak[es] them sing"--which is perfect for a 19-minute burst. Check out "Kill Your Co-Workers" (but please don't heed that message) and "Camera Day."
