Artist: Jared Mees & the Grown Children
Album: Only Good Thoughts Can Stay
Label: Tender Loving Empire
Genre: Rock
Comments: Though Jared Mees & the Grown Children's genre is officially rock, the group doesn't really do much to clearly define itself. In Only Good Thoughts Can Stay, this Portland-based band fails to develop a unique sound between the elements of rock, folk, alternative and bland, all with brass accompaniment. That's not to say that the band isn't talented. The instrumentation showcases skill and the production quality is very good but, as a whole, I'm not inclined to keep listening to this album just because every time the band hits a stride, it changes its sound. Also, at their best they sound like Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, except a little worse. The result is an album of half-memorable songs. Good, but not great or a repeat listen. Start with "Hungry Like a Tiger".
