Add Date: September 6
Artist: We Barbarians
Album: Headspace (EP)
Label: Beranimal
Genre: Rock
Comments: We Barbarians make poppy rock tunes with the occasional soaring guitar solo, crashing bass line or crushing percussion, in a style that brings to mind White Rabbits or Cold War Kids. So do a lot of other bands. Thus, it's worth noting that Headspace is extremely well done and interesting enough that the Brooklyn band shouldn't get clumped into the generic indie rock bin at your no-longer-existent record store.
The title track, which opens this set, pulls you in immediately, with what Ian Hultquist of recent tourmates Passion Pit calls "[t]hundering bass and drums along with dreamy guitar lines", and there's also a hint of a synthesizer in the background for good measure. Though this is just a 19-minute EP, there's really not a letdown here; other highlights include "Stroke By Stroke" and a nifty cover of a recent David Byrne/Brian Eno tune, "Strange Overtones".
