Comments: This collection of tracks is a radio sampler for the upcoming box set of 30 unreleased CAN songs, titled The Lost Tapes. CAN is cited as one of the original "krautrock" groups, founded in West Germany in 1968. They combined a psychedelic rock mentality with roots in experimental jazz and world music, writing songs spontaneously, on stage or off. Not only their sound, but also their approach to creating music had a powerful influence over the direction of modern music. Echoes of their experimentation can be heard across a multitude of genres today. This sampler is intriguing taken as an examination of CAN's creative processes, and fascinating as a window into the underground forces that shaped modern sound. Tracks 1 and 5 are recommended.
