Artist: Ethan Daniel Davidson
Album: Silvertooth
Label: Self-released
Genre: Folk, roots
Comments: Ethan Daniel Davidson sings just the kind of songs that you'd expect from a drifting folk singer, known for a globe-trotting 6-year tour and an inexhaustible catalog of memorized tunes. Silvertooth is a remarkable blend of roots genres: blues, country, ragtime jazz, folk, and rock 'n roll, mixed with spicy western vibes and world percussion. Strong comparisons can be drawn to the moody big band work of Tom Waits, and the classic rock of CCR. The tracks were made to flow from one song to the next, and they all maintain the feel of a biblical doomsday march, with every bit of the wandering, love, death and nostalgia involved. Ethan's voice is full of wavering emotion, supported by accompanying stand-up bass, a far-away dusty horn section, swing piano and slow, blues ballad guitar. It's easy to imagine a garage in faded sepia incandescent where the recording took place. Few albums achieve the timeless quality of Silvertooth. Great tracks include 1, 2, 5, 6 and 8.
