Add Date: June 18
Artist: Spectrals
Album: Sob Story
Label: Slumberland
Genre: Rock, pop
Comments: Originally the product of the one-man band of Louis Jones, Spectrals swelled to two with the addition of his brother Will on the drums for the release of their first full-length, Bad Penny. In the world of indie pop and soundscape stylings, Spectrals keeps it simple by drawing heavily on influences from classic rock. According to the promoter, Sob Story "displays Louis' wide-ranging influences--many loves developed on family car journeys growing up--from Big Star and the Rolling Stones, through Nick Lowe, Tom Petty and Slade to Galaxie 500 and even Blink-182."
While I am not quite seeing the Blink on Sob Story, the maneuverings of producer Chet "JR" White of Girls are undeniable. Sob Story plays like a throwback classic rock, country-tinged, Girls record, and that is by no means a bad thing. Check out tracks 1, 4 and 7.
