Jaymay

Add Date: August 30

Artist: Jaymay

Album: To Tell the Truth

Label: Self-released

Genre: Folk pop

Comments: New York-based singer-songwriter Jamie Seerman, who records as Jaymay, came along during the heyday of folksy indie pop in the mid-'00s, signing to Blue Note for her 2008 full-length debut Autumn Fallin'. (The record, as well as the Sea Green, Sea Blue EP that preceded it, were WLUR staff favorites.) But since scoring the 2010 film Happythankyoumoreplease, she's been relatively quiet -- until now, with the release of her second LP, To Tell the Truth.

The new record is full of beautifully orchestrated, full-band tunes that brush across many styles -- but which all hinge on Jaymay's songwriting and sadly sweet vocals. You'll find buoyant, folk-inflected pop (Baby Maybe One Day", "I Was Only Lovin' You"); darker, country-leaning Americana ("To Tell the Truth", "I Stand Up for Me"); and beautiful, swaying folk ballads ("I Just Got Over You"). Years have passed, but not much has changed with Jaymay's endearing music.
