Artist: Moontype
Album: Bodies of Water
Label: Born Yesterday
Genre: Indie rock, folk, math rock, post-punk
Comments: Chicago-hailing Moontype is a tight-knit trio whose friendship is palpable in each track on Bodies of Water. Though bassist-vocalist Margaret McCarthy does most of the writing for the group, it is clear that guitarist Ben Cruz and drummer Emerson Hunton not only accompany McCarthy but fledge out the emotions behind each track. The trio dives into a variety of genres and difficult time signatures which pay off tremendously (see "Alpha", probably my favorite on the record, for this as well as some delightfully playful guitar) and keep the listener captivated through every track, from the two-minute opener to the nearly eight-minute closer.
