Add Date: June 3
Artist: Alejandro Escovedo
Album: Real Animal
Label: Blue Note
Genre: Rock, alt-country
Comments: In many ways, Alejandro Escovedo's career path has mirrored that of Elvis Costello, though without as much fanfare. Escovedo started out as a punk rocker in the California band the Nuns, and later gravitated to the alt-country/power pop end of the spectrum, including a recent collaboration and tour with Caitlin Cary (Whiskeytown). Regardless of the genre, though, Escovedo has earned his reputation as a terrific songwriter and all-around musician. Real Animal combines elements from all stages of his career; start with the post-punk rocker "Always a Friend" and the alt-country gem "Sister Lost Soul."
"Real Animal" is the album of the year!
