Comments: Already featured as Best New Music on Pitchfork, Lie Down in the Light is another brilliantly crafted album from Will Oldham. It's getting comparisons to his 1999 record I See a Darkness, the first release under the Bonnie "Prince" Billy moniker, which is generally considered his masterpiece. (After all, Johnny Cash covered the title track for one of his American records.) Lie Down in the Light grabs you from the upbeat opener, "Easy Does It," and carries you through a wide range of folk styles to the album closer "I'll Be Glad." All songs are recommended, but in particular check out "(Keep Eye On) Other's Gain" and the title track. One of 2008's best.
