Comments: Based on internet buzz and the Sun Giant EP, there's been a lot of hype in anticipation for the debut full-length from Seattle's Fleet Foxes. The quintet does not disappoint on this release from Sub Pop, the label of Band of Horses (with whom they've been compared) and fellow new signees Blitzen Trapper (with whom they've toured). Lead singer Robin Pecknold describes Fleet Foxes' sound as "drawing from traditions of folk music, pop, choral music and gospel, baroque psychedelic, sacred harp singing, West Coast music, traditional music from Ireland to Japan, film scores, and friends and contemporaries in the Seattle music family." In layman's terms, Fleet Foxes are fairly difficult to categorize. In fact, there's so much here that it takes more than one listen to digest--I'm digging this record a lot more on the second time around. Start with "White Winter Hymnal" and "He Doesn't Know Why."
