Add Date: August 12
Artist: The Enemy UK
Album: We'll Live and Die in These Towns
Label: Warner Bros.
Genre: Brit rock, post-punk
Comments: Unsurprising fact no. 1: The Enemy are another post-punk band from Britain, with a sound very similar to Arctic Monkeys and the Futureheads. Unsurprising fact no. 2: NME lauded them as "Best New Band" in 2008. I don't present these as knocks against the band--after all, this is a very good sound that sells a lot of records, at least on one side of the pond. And I like what happens toward the end of We'll Live and Die in These Towns, as after the upbeat single "40 Days and 40 Nights," things slow down significantly, and effectively, into the working-class ballad "This Song." Also check out "Aggro" and the title track.
