Comments: I've always thought "big mess" was a good way to describe Grouplove's music, and I mean that in the best way possible. They've always seemed like a very scattered group that writes and plays whatever they want. Of course that's not the case, but their sound comes across as so natural, almost organic, that it doesn't really seem manufactured at all. Reminiscent of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros in that way, and almost every other Grouplove album, Big Mess is a solid collection of poppy indie rock tracks overlaid with the high, earnest vocals provided by Christian Zucconi and Hannah Hooper.
"Welcome to Your Life" seems appropriate as an opener, and could have fit just as well on their first album. "Good Morning" fits just as well but has a more of a reggae sound. "Traumatized" sounds a little harder than the rest but resolves itself into the same kind of sunny rock that the signature guitars and vocals create in tracks like "Tongue Tied" and "Colours'. I didn't expect this much similarity between Grouplove's first album and this one, but they've found a sound that works well for them and made another solid collection of songs for the summer.
