Comments: From the promoter: "On Whole & Cloven, folk multi-instrumentalist Nathan Bowles augments his mesmeric clawhammer banjo with piano, percussion, and vocals. After performing with Steve Gunn, Black Twig Pickers, Pelt, and Jake Xerxes Fussell, Whole & Cloven is an offering entirely Bowles's own, straddling Appalachian string band music and avant-garde composition, while wholly beholden to neither idiom. The album's seven tracks are almost entirely instrumental, ranging from dark minor-chord banjo-powered numbers (#3 and #5), to Riley-esque piano compositions (#2), to plucky rag-time (#7).
