Turbo Fruits

Add Date: September 11

Artist: Turbo Fruits

Album: Butter

Label: Serpents and Snakes

Genre: Rock, garage

Comments: I've already introduced the Nashville scene before. Lately it's been getting some solid press from, among other places, the Huffington Post (go figure). Turbo Fruits, a veteran band in the Nashville crowd, returns this week with their new album Butter. The LP sounds like what you'd expect from a Nashville band: a harder brand of garage rock that immediately strikes you as good-old rock and roll.

At the same time, though, the 4-piece bears a sound that makes themselves distinct within their scene. Lacking the wilder aspects of bands like Natural Child and Diarrhea Planet, the hard hitting hooks of Pujol's finest moments, and the monolithic heaviness of scene kings JEFF the Brotherhood, Turbo Fruits sounds more stripped-down than many of their peers. Whether this is due to Jim Eno's (of Spoon fame) producer credits or the band's personal preference, it has an endearing effect––one that abandons extreme style in order to produce a very straightforward rock record.

Oh yeah, Jonas Stein, the lead dude in this act, used to play guitar in Be Your Own Pet. Worth considering. Check out tracks 5 and 1.
